Tuesday, January 31st, 2006Dang It
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006I just jumped on the bandwagon not too long ago, and I was really looking forward to seeing how this race would go. Now I'm afraid I know exactly where this race will go.
I don't like Harris Miller very much. I haven't seen him offer any real ideas. Matter of fact, all I've heard are very broad references to a plank on his website.
We need to "draft" somebody else. We've still got plenty of time to do it. So, my question is this; Who do we draft?
Leslie Byrne
Phillip Puckett
Chap Petersen
Gerald Baliles
Douglas Wilder (Why not? We can at least make things interesting...)
We can't just walk away from this race without a real, viable candidate. We elected a Democrat Governor in November with 52%. One of our state's most liberal (and underfunded) candidates ever got 49% against a pretty well-funded Republican. Our outgoing Governor could very well be the next President of the United States.
I'll volunteer right now to run a "Draft ---- -----" campaign, if most folks can agree on somebody, and will also agree to help me out. So the question remains, who shall it be?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006Bad Day for Democrats
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006It was a bad day for the democrats. Alito gets the up or down vote he deserves after all the BS only 25 democrats opposed cloture. Over at Kos they were eating their own. The most common remarks were about not giving any more money to the DNC. This is great news as Drudge reports that the DNC has only $5.5 million compared to the RNC $34 million bankroll. Many democrats are not happy with Howard Dean, but the republicans are. Did Harry Reid take that tribe money or not? Dean said any democrat who did is in trouble. Reid in an interview on Fox called Dems On the Defensive has no idea who makes policy for the democrats. Here in Virginia Raising Kaine is heartbroken that Webb went deaf to their pleas to run against Sen Allen. Maybe Lowell will run. Heh. Bush is up to 50% approval in the latest poll. What a day! What are the democrats going to do you ask? Blackmail of course. From Redstate:
Democrats Blackmail United States Senator
That should be the headline for certain Democrats pushing this tactic. A lefty activist threatened a United States Senator, informing the Senator that should he vote for cloture on Samuel Alito, the activist would out the married Senator as a homosexual. Because of this Senator's vote, the activist intends now to out him at an inopportune time during the Senator's re-election bid this year.
Amazing......I will stop here because I am sure you get the picture.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006Manhole Cover Thefts
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006Here is a somewhat amusing article from the RT-D describing a recent trend of manhole cover theft in Richmond. Apparently the criminals have made a clean getaway with the heavy objects unnoticed.
Mark Herring for Senate
Monday, January 30th, 2006
Tomorrow is the big day for Mark Herring.
The WaPo threw its endorsement behind Herring today.
In doing so, it said:
The Republican candidate is Mick Staton Jr., a leader of the hang-the-controls, bring-on-the-builders majority on the Board of Supervisors. He also is the son-in-law and political protege of Mr. Black. His vastly superior opponent is Democrat Mark R. Herring , a Leesburg lawyer and, for his part, the stepson of former senator Charles L. Waddell (D), whom Mr. Mims defeated for the Senate in 1998. Mr. Herring is a former member of the Board of Supervisors who is strongly supported by Mr. Poisson, the new delegate. In a letter published Thursday in The Post’s Loudoun Extra, Mr. Poisson said that Mr. Herring would provide important support for the transportation and education efforts of Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) to work ‘in a bipartisan manner.’
This will be a key election for the Democratic party. Democrats have substantial momentum going into tomorrow’s election, but that shift cannot afford a loss tomorrow.
If you are anywhere around the 33rd Senate District, get out and vote or help others get out the vote. Contact Mark’s campaign here.

Monday, January 30th, 2006Know Thy Enemies; Part 2
Monday, January 30th, 2006As the story of Enemy continues, I realize I need to back up a little before I go forward. I think the story of the first time I met Enemy, and the story of the first time W (my best friend) met Enemy. For those who have emailed me that this doesn’t seem like an “Enemy” at all, you have to understand, in order to get to the part where she becomes an Enemy, I have to tell the background. Ok, so here we go:
The first time I met Enemy was when I visited the law school I decided to attend. The school sent out “roommate lists” so that we could find someone to live with. Enemy was on the list. I had called her about becoming roommates because she was originally from a town in Virginia. In my head, a Virginia girl could NEVER be that bad (in retrospect, I’ve now met a substantial amount of people from the town where she grew up and I’m fairly certain that there is something in the water there that causes women to be petty and evil and men to be arrogant). Anyway, I called but she had decided to live alone. My exboyfriend, Jay, and I were visiting the area and looking for apartments when I called Enemy once again to get together. She lived near the town and it made sense to at least meet one person prior to entering school. I called, we agreed to go to dinner at Olive Garden.
While sitting at the table, I was explaining to her how I didn’t eat any meat at that time. I ordered some sort of vegetable pasta, she had something with meat sauce and also ordered stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. She said “They’re stuffed with veggies and cheese, try one.” Ok, I admit, I should have probably known better. I should have read the description, but I was trusting this girl. The mushroom was stuffed with crab meat. I got ill that night from it, but I decided to forgive her. I mean, really, it was an honest mistake according to her.
A month after school began, I decided to go home for a weekend. September 11th had happened, I missed my family, and my dad had decided to buy me a new car. Enemy went home with me. We made plans with W and when they were introduced, it went something like this.
“This is W. She and I have been best friends for 7 years.” ~Me
“Well, I’m the best friend now.” ~Enemy
Territorial? Yes. Offensive? Yes, especially to W. The three of us left my parent’s house to go out and we ran into another old friend, LK. LK had known W and I both for his entire life and part of the constants in his life was the fact that W and I were best friends. Enemy introduced herself to LK as “M’s new best friend.” LK looked from W to me and back with a weird look on his face, waiting for us to correct her. Instead W and I just kind of looked at each other and shook our heads.
We began to joke with LK about his car. It was one of those Fast and the Furious looking cars and W and I asked him if he was audition for the next Fast and the Furious saga (or something to that effect). LK laughed. Enemy looked at LK and said, “What kind of idiot drives a car like that? Does it make you feel manly? Probably overcompensating.” Those may not have been the exact words, but something equally as offensive. LK told her she was a bitch and told me he didn’t think she was a good friend for me because I’m not a bitch.
I remember the ride back to school when Enemy said to me, “You’re lucky you’re out of that hellhole. Those people are SUCH rednecks. You’re lucky to have me.”
I suppose she meant lucky in that Single White Female sort of way….
Fear of Fear
Monday, January 30th, 2006-
A nasty and viscous attack against Pres. Bush and members of his administration by a person who clearly belongs to the group of: Dean, Maxine Waters, Al Twana Sharpton, Kennedy and other notable nasty partisan folks.
-
Robinson dismisses the risk Americans are subject to as a "wag the dog" type political game of fear mongering.
-
The fathers and mothers I personally know who lost their sons in the World Trade Towers do not take this war that has been thrust upon us as a political game!
-
It’s clear to me that the parents and family and friends of a young Franklin County soldier who gave his life for his country in Iraq last month do not agree with Robinson.
-
Our fellow Americans who serve in the military and in the Homeland Security departments do not view this War as a game!
-
Having Robinson’s buddy Dem Sen Reid running out to the media cameras with the announcement "we just killed the Patriot Act" is not viewed in a positive light by anyone I know or talk to. And based on the overwhelming support for this Act in the Congress and the 52 positive Senate votes for it, it appears that the majority of Americans do not think this war is a game!
-
Robinson’s hatred of Karl Rove is typical of the partisan swamp that he and others of his ilk have sunk into with the welfare of the American people taking a back seat to their vindictiveness.
-
Hopefully these people will come to their senses and realize that we are indeed a country at war and a people at risk and having our national leaders fully committed to our protection is a good thing!

ps: What responsibility does Robinson have for the welfare and safety of our people and when we get hit again -- what accountability will he suffer?

Alito Up-Down 72 to 25
Monday, January 30th, 2006Kerry and Kennedy and their radical left-wing friends went down in flames this PM in the US Senate with their last ditch attempt to filibuster an up/down vote on Judge Alito for the Supreme Court.
-
After the respectful and dignified way in which the Republicans treated and voted for Ultra-Liberal Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, every Democrat in the US should be ashamed of this cabal of crude and disgusting partisians.
