More Police Trouble in Smyth…

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

UPDATED:  Sources say now that both deputies were fired by the sheriff.  Official sources have not released any names yet.  However, from the talk on the street there is a pretty good idea in the community of whom they are.
==========
Been hearing rumors about this and finally found this article in today’s Smyth County News online.

Apparently two current Smyth County Sheriff’s Deputies have been implicated in a drug ring that included Saltville Police Investigator Gary Call.  Call was arrested last fall on federal drug charges and sentenced to federal prison for around two years.  Sheriff David Bradley says in the article that he is conducting an internal probe of the latest allegations.

Word on the street is that one deputy was fired Monday and one was suspended too.

This is part of a very distressing trend that has been occurring in recent years in Smyth County and Southwest Virginia as a whole.  Law officers who are sworn to uphold the public trust get involved in breaking the laws and flagrantly violating the public trust.

I hope federal and state law enforcement continue to clean up the corruption in local law enforcement.  It really undermines the public trust in those serving the public.

Thoughts from across the pond

Sent to me via e-mail, source unknown.

An email from Ireland to the brethren in the States… a point to ponder despite your political affiliation:

We, in Ireland, can’t figure out why people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States. On one side, you have a pants wearing lawyer, married to a lawyer who can’t keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer who goes to the wrong church who is married to yet another lawyer who doesn’t even like the country her husband wants to run.

Now…On the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate Mc terminology, married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship.

What in Lords name are ye lads thinking over there in the colonies?

Filed under both humor and politics… is that redundant?

Ezra Levant - Aquitted

Punished first, acquitted later - Ezra Levant

But I’ve read the dismissal letter three times now, and each time it makes me more angry. Because I haven’t been given my freedom of the press. I’ve simply had the government censor approve what I said. That’s a completely different thing.

Follow the Money

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

This would be most of my problem with the Al Gore and his position on global warming.

Gore Hits the Waves with a Massive New Houseboat

I’m all for decreasing our need for oil (foreign or otherwise), and most anything else that would improve our environment. I’m a big fan of the great outdoors, and I want my children to see the same beautiful scenery I’ve seen. My problem with the global warming crowd is that most of the big names you associate with the political side of the movement are getting rich off of it. And they’re spending this money on things like a “new 100-foot houseboat that docks at the Hurricane Marina”. Grand total, probably somewhere between $500,000 to 1,000,000. If the most important thing we can do is to support Al Gore’s environmental causes, then why is his money going to something like this?

Body Pump 67 Sneak Peek

Monday, August 4th, 2008
The latest buzz floating around about Body Pump 67 (due out to instructors this September) reveals a very listenable tracklist. Notable artists: Finger Eleven, P!nk, and Aerosmith, not to mention a teamup between Bon Jovi and Big & Rich on the Biceps track (remember Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy). E-Type returns for (you guessed it) Back and Hamstrings, and the Abs track features a tantalizing plank crunch maneuver. Want more details? Check out fellow blogger Patrick's Body Pump 67 sizzler post (which includes YouTube links), or the this underground tracklist...

Upcoming foreclosures for sale

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I have two foreclosures that will be on the market soon. They are vacant and being evaluated now for pricing but I wanted to give everyone a heads up if you or someone you know may be interested.

The first foreclosure is in Blue Ridge (Botetourt County) in the Rainbow Forest area. It is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath ranch with a full basement (50% finished). The basement has a fire place and the kitchen in this home is enormous. It also has a two car garage and is at the end of a cul-de-sac just off of Mountain Pass Road. Price to be determined but it’s sure to be a bargain in this popular neighborhood. A few minor repairs and it’ll be a show place. (This property is now for sale. See it here.)

The second foreclosure is in NE Roanoke City in Read Mountain Estates off of Old Mountain Road. It is a 4 bedroom, 2 and a half bath Colonial with nice level yard and great landscaping. It features skylights, walk-in closets, a large island in the kitchen and a quiet dead end street in another popular neighborhood. The price on this home is also to be determined but no doubt it’ll be a bargain too. The last foreclosure I sold in this neighborhood sold for way below the market value.
