The “Glass Ceiling” Never Even Saw Her Coming…

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

and it wouldn’t have mattered, anyway.

Tonight, I am truly awestruck.  …And thankful that, just as I had Margaret Thatcher, my daughter has

Sarah Palin.

One question:  How did this obviously Southern woman come from Alaska?

Mrs. Palin, consider yourself adopted, you Steel Magnolia, you!!

Go McCain/Palin!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

John McCain couldn’t have made a better choice for VP than that of Gov. Sarah Palin.  She has added to the GOP ticket the equivalent of a “rock star” effect.  Admittedly, I was quite bored with the McCain campaign prior to her being named the VP choice.  Since the announcement I have become even more excited about this election.

Over the weekend we Smyth County Republicans worked a tent at the annual Saltville Labor Day Celebration.  We observed two interesting trends.  One was that interest in registering to vote was on the rise.  We must have handed out at least 10 applications over the 3 days there.  Secondly, the number of well-known Democrats in the area saying they were going to vote for McCain/Palin was shocking.  Many of them cited Sarah Palin as the reason and Obama’s snubbing of Hillary as part of it.  Others just mentioned it in simpler terms, “She (Palin) is good looking.”  Voters always vote on peculiar reasons and I am sure that looks will have something to do with this election.  Only one person of the many we spoke to spoke ill of Palin and their qualm was that she simply was female, which is not a valid point.

Palin’s recent issues with her daughter’s pregnancy goes to further drive home the point that she is a family oriented and common person like most Americans.  I think that this issue helps her more than it hurts her candidacy.

One thing is for certain now.  This ballgame has changed as of Friday.  Obama’s runaway freight train just got detoured onto another track.

On to November and let’s win this thing!!!

Google Chrome Eminent

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

This looks interesting. Google is jumping into the browser game with a browser called “Chrome”. They have some good ideas, I hope their product stands up to their hype. This has been in the works for quite a while, but I for one never thought they’d ever release it. I’ll be happy to be wrong if this is released as expected.

Google Ignites a New Browser War With Microsoft By Unveiling One of its Own

In its most frontal and aggressive attack on Microsoft yet, sources with knowledge of the project said Google is preparing to unveil a new browser – ready for download to users as early as tomorrow – to try to loosen Microsoft’s iron grip on the most important piece of software to navigate the Internet.

Also interesting is their form of news release… a comic book. Didn’t see that coming.

Update: The beta is available – Google Chrome

My Obligatory Post Regarding Sarah Palin’s Daughter’s Baby

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

1)  Is my son the father?

2)  Is my dad the father?

3)  Will I have to pay for its birth?

4)  Will it be named after me?

5)  Will I be expected to send a baby gift?

6)  Will I be asked to hostess a baby shower?

7)  Will I be the Godmother?

8)  Will I be expected to remember the birthday and send a card/gift each year?

9)  Will I be invited to its graduation and buy even more presents?

10) Will I be asked to chip in for college expenses?

11) Will the birth of this baby impact my life in any way, whatsoever?

No to the eleventh power so it’s none of my business.  Probably none of yours, either.
