Monday, June 28th, 2010Diet update, day 63
Monday, June 28th, 2010Doo dee doo, losing weight, going down about .2, .3 lbs a day, slow but steady. Starting the third month and HOLY CRAP WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
I’ll tell you what happened. At about day fifty-eight, we decided to take a three day vacation from the diet. It was almost two months, and we were feeling a bit run down and, frankly, bored. So we made a list of dinners we used to eat and made those. We ate fast food, including the french fries. I had some of the candy that had been laying around since Easter. Plenty of carbs.
The grey line above is my real weight value every day, and you can see the spike in the results. A little under three pounds, almost overnight.
Also, apparently we had forgotten what run-down felt like. The graph doesn’t show the sudden increase in aches and pains, sleep problems, low energy levels.
Nor does the graph show how underwhelmed we were by what we were eating those three days. When we first started a low-carb diet, things like french fries and mac & cheese became decadent and dangerous. And I do make a mean mac & cheese. But we just weren’t into it. By the end of the third day we were already drifting back into low-carb eating. And you can also see the precipitous drop in my weight again, starting at day 61.
When people say low-carb is a lifestyle change, I think a lot of us hear this as meaning “you will have to fight carbohydrates for the rest of your life.” Maybe some people do. But this still doesn’t seem like a fight. I still like bread and potato chips and french fries, but there’s no way I’m returning to my old diet. I just don’t want to.
