My predictions

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006
Okay, I screwed up my biggest prediction last year, so don’t wager on anything I’m saying here. Disclaimer aside, here’s how I see things playing out today. –Sen. George Allen will pull his race out by the skin of his teeth. I say a three point Allen victory. Far closer than it should [...]

Phil Kellam is incompetent

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006
This is hilarious. Democrat Phil Kellam, the challenger in the 2nd Congressional district, recorded a message and sent it out in the form of robo-calls all day Monday. One problem: Phil Kellam is calling voters in the second district telling them that today is election day and to get out and vote today! The recorded [...]

Election Day indicators

Monday, November 6th, 2006
GOP Hokie has a couple of excellent posts (here and here) about some indicators to watch for on Election Day, starting with the weather.

2nd CD debate live on internet

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006
Tomorrow’s 2nd Congressional district debate between GOP Congresswoman Thelma Drake and Dem Phil Kellam will be streamed live on the Internet at www.wvec.com. Taping is slated to begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2006, with the streaming beginning when the taping actually begins. The debate will air on WVEC-TV on Sunday, November [...]

Strong support for Kellam…not

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006
Evidently, Mark Warner appeared at a fundraiser for the Dem candidate, Phil Kellam, in the 2nd Congressional district…and basically ignored Kellam all evening. Some other folks put in a questionable appearance, though.

John Kerry is trying to throw the election to the GOP

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006
Quote of the Day, from John Kerry’s attempt to throw the election to the GOP: “I guess Kerry wasn’t content blowing 2004, now he wants to blow 2006, too.” Unnamed Democratic Congressman, commenting to ABC News on John Kerry’s “botched joke.”

Podcast endorsements

Monday, October 30th, 2006
The Bearing Drift crew (and then some) have made their endorsements in some of this year’s races…in podcast form. Good stuff, as always.

Virginian-Pilot endorses Thelma Drake

Thursday, October 26th, 2006
I see that the Pilot has endorsed GOP incumbent Thelma Drake in the 2nd Congressional district: Despite that, the first-term congresswoman deserves to be returned to Congress over her opponent, overmatched Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue Phil Kellam, who seems to be running a campaign built on the fact that he’s not her. Drake’s diligence [...]

Focus on the 2nd Congressional district

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006
Via Bearing Drift, I see that National Review Online has taken a rather in-depth look (at least, for a national publication) of the 2nd Congressional District race here in Virginia. The article calls the race between Republican incumbent Thelma Drake and Dem challenger Phil “Silence of the” Kellams “the other hot Virginia race.” [...]

Standing up for blogs?

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006
It seems that the Thelma Drake campaign is going to bat for the blogosphere, in a sense, after this semi-controversy.

An interesting week

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006
NoVA Scout on an interesting week in Virginia politics.

Wolf-Feder debate tonight

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006
I see that there will be a debate in the 10th Congressional district tonight. I look forward to the reports.

Bearing Drift shut out

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006
It appears that Bearing Drift will not be allowed to podcast the next debate in the 2nd Congressional district, after being the “only Hampton Roads media outlet to fully record and provide the two previous congressional debates” between Republican Thelma Drake and Dem challenger Phil Kellam. Disappointing.

10th CD

Sunday, October 15th, 2006
RWR has some thoughts on the race in Virginia’s 10th Congressional district where, as Bwana notes, incumbent Republican Frank Wolf was surprisingly endorsed by the Washington Post.

Thelma Drake makes huge gains

Thursday, October 12th, 2006
I don’t know what to make of this poll, but Republican 2nd Congressional district incumbent Thelma Drake has made some huge gains here. This race is going to be a fun one to watch on election night; I expect Drake to pull it out, but it’s going to be tight.

New Thelma Drake ad

Sunday, October 8th, 2006
I see that the Republican incumbent in the 2nd Congressional district, Thelma Drake, has a new ad out.

Phil Kellam had a bad day, too

Friday, September 29th, 2006
I can’t let the biggest news in Virginia’s congressional races go unmentioned. Check out Bearing Drift for all the details, but it appears that the Dem candidate in Virginia’s 2nd (running against Rep. Thelma Drake), Phil Kellam, was convicted of “Assault on a Female” some time back. Not only was he convicted, but [...]

Phil Kellam sunk?

Thursday, September 28th, 2006
JR is teasing us with a “major announcement” coming sometime Thursday night about Phil Kellam, the Dem candidate in the 2nd Congressional district. If his announcement is about what I think it is, Kellam’s campaign is about to take a huge hit. Good news for fans, including me, of the GOP candidate, Rep. Thelma Drake. [...]

Con Artist?

Thursday, September 21st, 2006
James Young enjoys a “gotcha” moment on Andrew Hurst and his supporters. Hurst, of course, is the Democratic candidate in the 11th Congressional district (vs. incumbent Rep. Tom Davis).
