Poor kid

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006
My son (2 years old) is in bed right now, but on the monitor, we can hear him saying “Let’s go, Hoos!” to himself. Poor kid. He’s in for a lifetime of disappointments if he’s a Hoo fan, and I can only blame myself.

Another happy birthday wish

Friday, October 6th, 2006
Last weekend, I wasn’t near a computer and I wasn’t able to wish a happy birthday to my lovely wife. Well (since she was with me in Norfolk), I wished her a happy birthday that morning, obviously, but I didn’t put up a post about it here at CC. Evidently, that was a huge mistake, [...]

Let’s go, Steelers

Monday, September 18th, 2006
Star tight end Heath Miller and the Steelers are playing tonight on Monday Night Football. I’m looking forward to watching the game and cheering for the Steel Crew, especially native Southwest Virginian Miller. If anyone is around and watching the game, feel free to discuss it here. Best part about being a Steelers fan: listening [...]

Seven years ago today…

Monday, August 7th, 2006
Seven years ago today, in what was clearly a fit of temporary insanity, the most wonderful woman in the world married me. As of that date (8/7/99), I became the luckiest man in the world. Nothing has changed. Happy anniversary, sweetheart. I can’t believe it’s been seven years, and I can’t wait to [...]

Happy Birthday, Casey

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006
It’s my son’s second birthday. He’s awesome.

Golf blogging

Thursday, July 20th, 2006
The British Open starts today. Always a lot of fun, unless your name is Jean Van de Velde. Hope I get some time to watch the golf this weekend, but I may not be able. My brother is in from China, and I promised to take him to a Reds game before he goes [...]

Family time

Thursday, July 6th, 2006
If you have wondered, we’ve taken the kids on a short trip to the Smokie Mountains (zoo, aquarium, etc.), so I’m away from an internet connection. I’ll be back soon. Any of you ever spent any time here? I never really did until my wife and I got married, and it’s a nice place [...]

He’s baaaaack….

Saturday, July 1st, 2006
Nearly a year ago, one of my younger brothers left for China, to teach English. He returned to the States today, and I took my whole family to meet him at the airport. I didn’t realize how much I had missed him until I saw him walk toward us, and watched my daughter [...]

Tennis blogging

Monday, June 26th, 2006
Wimbledon, one of tennis’ most anticipated tournaments, begins today across the pond in the mother country. It’s always an entertaining spectacle, if a little pretentious, and I’m looking forward to it. This year, there is an added storyline: Andre Agassi has announced his upcoming retirement from tennis, and this will be his final Wimbledon. [...]

Ten second movie review

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006
Last night, we took both of the kids to the theater to see “Cars,” the new animated feature from Pixar. They’ve got another hit on their hands, and we had a nice family evening. “Cars” isn’t anywhere near as good as some previous Pixar features, like Toy Story and The Incredibles…but it’s good. The [...]

The blog summit

Saturday, June 17th, 2006
The blog summit is well underway in Charlottesville, and everyone appears to be having a good time.  Reports on the event are here, here, here, and here. As you know, I am not attending this year.  Instead, I am enjoying a Father’s Day weekend with the people who mean the most to me.  Last night, we [...]

Italia!

Monday, June 12th, 2006
Steve Minor has this great account of part of his recent trip to Italy, with some excellent photographs. My wife and I have dreamed of visiting Italy for some time. Perhaps we’ll get the chance by the time we’re as old as Minor.

Organized chaos

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006
Just got home from my daughter's tee-ball game, and that's the best description of what we see every game: organized chaos. The kids have a blast, though.

Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 14th, 2006
I’d like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there, including those mothers who are regular readers of Commonwealth Conservative. Mostly, I’d like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to the special women in my life. My own mother and my wife (the mother of our two children) are the two greatest [...]

A sad day

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006
We signed our daughter up for pre-school yesterday. It's our first child, and I can't believe she's almost old enough to go to school. Everyone always told us that they grow up too fast, and we're finding out now that that is the absolute truth.

Happy Easter

Sunday, April 16th, 2006
Happy Easter to you all (that goes for you, too, Will). Lots of family stuff going on today, so I don't know how much activity there will be here. Go enter the Caption Contest, if you are itching to do something, and prepare for a blowout Triple Play Caption Contest post on Monday.

T-ball

Thursday, April 13th, 2006
T-ball is organized chaos. Our league throws the players a couple of pitches before placing it on the tee if the player has difficulty. In the meantime, a thousand different things are happening at once. Someone is always picking a flower. Someone is always playing in the dirt. Someone is [...]

Dotsons across the Commonwealth

Monday, April 10th, 2006
Dotsons are doing well all across the Commonwealth. In today's RTD, I see that my cousin Aaron Dotson's ad agency, Elevation, is getting some great publicity. The piece focuses largely on Elevation's dazzling work for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, but the firm boasts several other large clients, including Troutman Sanders, The Richmond Symphony, the State Fair [...]

Oh, the places I will go

Thursday, March 16th, 2006
Rather than watching the opening night of the March Madness, I was attending a performance of Dora the Explorer Live with my wife and children this evening. You should need no further evidence that I love my children above all.
