I see from Glenn Reynolds that more and more law students are flunking the bar exam these days. I'll tell you this: I'm glad I never have to take that dreadful test again. Once was enough. The summer I spent studying for that exam, and then taking it, was simply brutal.
Of course, [...]
Teens Missing, Canoe Found
Monday, February 27th, 2006
One of those grim searches that every parent fears is taking place in my neighborhood right now. The brother of one of the missing boys is in my daughter's class.
Before, I always watched these sad events from afar with a lump in my throat. That same lump is there, but it's more intense [...]
Fini

Our exchange student, Clémentine, is back in France after her two weeks of American suburban life. It was a good experience, although not necessarily one I would do again--too hectic. We're gradually getting back into our old routine, but we had grown very attached to her and it just doesn't seem right [...]
Le Return
Tuesday, February 21st, 2006
After taking my French exchange student to Monticello, Washington, DC, and Virginia Beach over the weekend, I'm back. A good time was had by all, including the French principal, François, who accompanied us to the Beach. Since he had mostly seen Virginia from I-95, we travelled Rt. 10 to Rt. 40 [...]
I’m back
Monday, February 20th, 2006
My wife and I decided to spend a couple of days in the Great Smoky Mountains this weekend, and we had a good time. We recharged our batteries a bit, which was the goal.
Upon returning from a trip, people always say, "It's good to be home." I don't agree, at least [...]
Darkness Falls
Saturday, February 18th, 2006
Sorry that CC has been dark today ... Chad's away in the Great Smokies and I've been busy showing Virginia and American life to our French foreign exhange student. Looks like leaving the Caption Contest at the top has generated a lot of entries that I'll have to peruse. I miss entering!
We [...]
Casey At The Bat
Thursday, February 16th, 2006
Because I am so excited that Reds' pitchers and catchers are reporting to Spring Training today, and because my only son is named Casey (and I wouldn't mind if he were a ballplayer), I decided to reprint this classic poem by Ernest Thayer.
Last night, I watched this movie, looked up this player, and [...]
The French Connection
Thursday, February 16th, 2006
I haven't updated my adventures with hosting a French Exchange student in a while, but suffice it to say that it's pretty much consuming my life, albeit in a good way. My good friend, artist Rick Dennis, is running a website devoted to the exchange experience. Being a blogger, I've tried to bring [...]
Happy Valentine’s Day
Tuesday, February 14th, 2006
I just wanted to wish a happy Valentine's Day to the wonderful women in my life, especially my beautiful wife. She's a saint for putting up with me, and I couldn't have asked for a better partner and friend.
Read this post from one year ago; I wouldn't change a word. I'm lucky to [...]
Franco-American Report
Monday, February 13th, 2006
It's been hectic, but things are going well with our French exhange student guest, Clémentine. Because of the bad weather, she arrived with her group at midnight Saturday and we didn't all get to sleep until around 2AM. She was up at 7AM, ready to take on the USA.
We took a walk in [...]
Let it snow…
Sunday, February 12th, 2006
While I'm waiting for the women's game to end so that they can switch over to the Georgetown-West Virginia basketball game, I thought I'd post a couple of pictures. Yesterday and today, my wife and I took the kids outside to play in the snow. To say the kids had a good time [...]
French Fried
Saturday, February 11th, 2006
Chad, blogging from your new staffer is going to be light to non-existant this weekend and sporadic for the next two weeks. I'm part of a group that's hosting 10 French students and two teachers. They arrive tonight at Dulles, right in the middle of another "killer storm," or so the meteorological chicken [...]
Overwhelmed
Saturday, February 4th, 2006
The Cake Man came up short at today's Swift Creek Elementary School Winter Carnival. The parents overwhelmed me with donated cakes. At 3:30 I had to change the rules and give away two cakes per walk. Even with that, I went into overtime, giving away cakes until 4:15.
