Thursday Harvest

Thursday, July 6th, 2006
The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.

Those goodies sent to me by my sister Melanie.

Harvesting music:

Last night I wasted alot of time fooling with re-doing my iPod workout choices and decided on doing a Summer mix CD for me and Toonces while entertaining or hanging out on the new patio.

It is amazing how you can be on your last leg, sweat in your eyes, can't hardly push yourself to go one bit further....and "Push It" by the Black Eyed Peas will come on and Rollie is off again.  Little feet just a churnin'.   I also keep "My Humps" on there but that is a more fast walk than run song because I tend to ad lib the moves while I am moving.

Lord knows what I will look like trying to run to Shakira's Hips Don't Lie.  I will probably end up getting my feet all twisted up trying to shimmy and run at the same time.

Anyway, Toonces and I love music....big BIG on music....so I try to find new stuff in Jazz, Blues, Rock, Americana, Zydeco....you name it....when I am visiting the iPod store.  Last night I burned some of the new things downloaded for my workout with a mix of a couple he loves (Ice, Ice Baby-  I'm not kidding) and picked from a list under "good summer music".

I go upstairs to his office with my new cd....tickled with my creation and pop it in the cd player for him to check out.   Roll through the obvious.

Now I am pretty good with music but Toonces....geez....One beat.   One beat.

Toonces "WOOOO is that the Ventures."  "Everybody knows this drum solo."  I am watching him in his office chair rolling across his desk playing air drums like a 7 year old.  Wild.

One Beat...."Don't tell me you've got Green Onions....Now I love me some Booker T!!!"  I think I hit a vain with the old stuff.

One Beat..."MUNGO JERRY????....MUNGO JERRY????...In the Summertime." he sings.  "You went back in the vault BABY!!!"  MMM MMM.

One Beat....I swear he should've been on Name that Tune. One beat...."OOOOH Girl NO....STONED SOUL PICNIC!!!!  OOOH STONED SOUL PICNIC."  "Baby you went all the way back in the deck for this one!"  I had never even heard that song.  I just thought it sounded cool.

"Good Job Baby."

He is very expressive when he likes something....I call it the "Mr. Landlord face"...you know from Eddie Murphy and Sat. Night Live.  It was entertaining.  He liked all but one song.

So if you wanna see the complete cd I chose I will put it under the next shot of my crazy baby boy Earl.....other wise "Happy Thursday Guys"

Deanna Lynn: Life Divided by R

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Deanna Lynn: Life Divided by R is the blog of my old friend from high school. She’s a singer-songwriter in Charlotte and apparently doing quite well at it. I have a couple of her CDs in my travel case and I listen to ‘em whenever I have occasion to drive a car (not too often!).

What I’m Listening To Now

Monday, March 6th, 2006

It’s spring break here at Virginia Tech, so I can listen to music in my office just like it was a weekend. Usually I listen to one of the Prog Rock internet radio stations, and that’s where I discovered Porcupine Tree. Right now I’m listening to The Sky Moves Sideways (expanded remaster). My favorite of their albums (so far) is In Absentia. Good stuff.
