What are you thankful for?

This is a short week, so blogging might be sparse. I thought I would give you all an open thread on Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for beyond the usual - God, family, friends, another day of life?

I am thankful for all of those things, especially my children. However, today I want to say thanks to those people who go out of their way to perform small acts of kindness for strangers. Increasingly, this is a lost art in an impersonal, fast-paced world.

Race week favorites?

So who says we have to be serious all the time? It’s race week in Bristol and things get a little crazier as the week goes on. I like having all the extra people around and all the activity that goes with it.

I am not, however, actually a race fan. My favorite part of race week is the truck parade. The kids and I have watched it every year since it began. This year, it falls on my daughter’s birthday, so she is doubly excited.

The heat

It is the one thing everybody is talking about - the heat wave. But as bad as it is here, I wouldn’t change places with the folks in New York City, Washington D.C. or Boston ... where the temperatures are supposed to be 100-plus.

Actually, I’m not sure the heat has bothered me at all. My office and car are air conditioned. By the time I get around to the late evening workout, it has cooled off some. Air conditioning has changed the way we all live.

OK. I confess. I watched the Oscars on Sunday night, but I hadn’t seen a single one of the movies. Not one.

I have plans to watch one or two of the honored films on DVD ... eventually. And, I enjoyed watching Reese Witherspoon (raised in Nashville) tear up as she talked about her strong, Southern granny after winning Best Actress for her turn as June Carter Cash.

The rest of the awards ceremony was pretty unimpressive, and the selection of “It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp” as Best Song was bizarre.
